Memphis, Tennessee Continued…

I don’t think it is possible for me to write about Memphis without having the song by Pam Tillis, “Maybe it was Memphis”, going through my head. If you haven’t checked out that oldie but goodie, you really should. (Here, I dropped the link for your convenience 😉 https://youtu.be/MOo9iJ8RYWM ).

While in Memphis we were able to do so many amazing things that are original to the city in the short amount of time we had there. We got to check out one of the cutest places ever that is extremely hard not to like. That place is called Muddy’s.

Muddy’s Bake Shop

We went to the East Memphis Location

5101 Sanderlin #144

Memphis, TN 38117

Muddy’s is as cute as it can be and is located within a nice, vintage looking residential area. Muddy’s is a family business that is obsessed with Memphis and strives to make Memphis a happier place. I think we can all vouch that spreading a little happiness around is something that everywhere needs a little more of.

When you walk into the shop it is literally as if you are walking into someone’s home. The brick two-sided fireplace and the comfortable feel of the shop makes you feel as if you are at home. The sweet touches around the shop give it a joyful feel. There are brightly colored banners hanging around along with garland and cool wall decor like vintage looking plates and my personal favorite, a huge “M” on the wall that is enshrined with mix matched coffee cups. Talk about character! Muddy’s has a community board for all of the community news and information as well as plenty of making coffee “must-haves” like a Chemex and French Press to purchase around the shop. It is easy to see that this place is passionate about its city and its coffee. Those are both things that we can surely appreciate. Muddy’s has a large case full of yummy desserts like cupcakes, slices of cake, cookies, bars, pies and pudding too! Y’all know how much I love something sweet with my coffee so this was the absolute best place that Brady and Lacey could have suggested for us to visit!

There are so many different types of cupcakes to choose from so it makes it extremely difficult to decide what to get. I think out of us all we got a chocolate cupcake, a champagne cupcake, red velvet and banana. I got the “King” cupcake that was a banana base with peanut butter frosting. I am a huge fan of peanut butter banana sandwiches so it was the best cupcake I could have chosen. They were all absolutely scrumptious. One thing that I really appreciate about Muddy’s is their reasonable prices. I got a cupcake and coffee drink for about five bucks, which is incredible pricing compared to many other places.

Muddy’s has a vast coffee menu with a lot of great choices to choose from. Something that I think is really very cool that they do is change the drip coffees constantly and use roasters from all over the country. They want their customers to experience a wide variety of blends and beans. I think that this is a cool concept, there would definitely be some negatives, but overall I think it is a very cool thing that they do that makes them unique. For the expresso drinks Muddy’s uses Zingerman’s Coffee Company that is based out of Michigan. Zingerman’s focuses on a “sweet, clean, well developed” roast that is anything but bitter. The shop has many drinks to choose from in three different categories. I like the way that the shop splits the drinks up from the “signature drinks” to the “classics” and the “cold drinks”. Having categories definitely makes the selection process easier so you can narrow it down to what you are feeling in the moment. I was feeling a classic the day we visited and decided on the “Cafe Au Lait” which is just coffee with added hot milk. I liked it because it was super smooth but with a bold flavor. Sydney decided on the drip coffee and thought it was really great for the chilly evening that it was. If I make it back to Muddy’s I think I will have to try the Signature Raspberry White Mocha. For some reason that sounds really really good right about now.

As you can probably tell, we absolutely adored our adventures in Memphis. If you have a weekend, even if it is only a day, I promise Memphis is the perfect place to explore. From amazing coffee, rich history, and character galore, Memphis is not a place you will regret visiting. To all of our Texan Travelers, if you find yourself in Tennessee whether passing through, on vacation, or moving for work, make sure you stop by and check out these neat coffee stops. We know you will enjoy your experience and have just as much fun as we did!

Enjoy your travels!

Love,
